PERIODIC TESTING OF THE HARDNESS TESTERS

Periodic testing is an important part of the monitoring of hardness testing equipment within the quality management system and must be carried out and documented in accordance with DIN EN ISO 6506 (metallic materials; Brinell hardness testing), DIN EN ISO 6507 (metallic materials; Vickers hardness testing), DIN EN ISO 6508 (metallic materials; Rockwell hardness testing) and DIN EN ISO 4545 (metallic materials; Knoop hardness testing) as well as ASTM with calibrated and certified hardness reference blocks.

To avoid a possible systematic measurement deviation, the test parameters are to be taken from the corresponding certificate. Without a certificate, hardness reference blocks are practically useless. This check is required after every change of machine settings, e.g. after changing the test method or the indenter. Furthermore, at least one or two test indentations per hardness range and hardness scale are specified (working) daily. Documentation is prescribed by standards or at least strongly recommended, since the verification of the documentation of the results of the periodic test is usually part of an audit. For further information, please refer to the corresponding, currently valid standard documents.

INDIVIDUAL FILE RETRIEVAL

Use the free, individual file retrieval for each purchased hardness comparison plate and generate an individual Excel file for each hardness comparison plate for the periodic testing of your hardness testers. This file contains, among other things, the calibration value, the limit deviation, the repeatability and the measurement uncertainty according to the standard of the hardness comparison plate used.

After entering the MPA NRW number and the hardness value of a hardness comparison plate (see picture above), the download is carried out by clicking on the OK button.

When using this EXCEL file, the repeatability, standard deviation and measurement uncertainty are calculated for your hardness tester using the calibrated hardness reference block and compared with the limit values specified in the standards. Afterwards it is displayed to what extent the actual values are within the limits or exceed them.
