Shore hardness testers, hardness test

The Shore hardness test is mainly used to determine the hardness of elastomers and plastics. A spring-loaded pin made of hardened steel penetrates the test specimen. The penetration depth is the measure of Shore hardness, which is measured on a scale from 0 Shore (2.5 millimeter penetration depth) to 100 Shore (0 millimeter penetration depth).

Shore process at a glance:

  • Shore A   (indenter tip flattened, 35°) for e.g. soft rubber, elastomers, natural rubber.

  • Shore D   (indenter tip 30°) for e.g. hard rubber, rigid thermoplastics, tough elastomers

  • Shore AO (indenter tip ball 5mm) for e.g. foams, steering wheels, interior trim of motor vehicles

  • Shore B    (indenter tip 30°) for e.g. harder elastomers than Shore A

  • Shore C    (indenter tip flattened, 35°) for e.g. medium-hard elastomers

  • Shore DO (indenter tip spherical 3/32" ) for e.g. dense-grained materials, textile fabrics

  • Shore O   (indenter tip spherical 3/32" ) for e.g. soft elastomers, textile fabrics

  • Shore OO (indenter tip spherical 3/32" ) for e.g. foam, sponge and cellular rubber, human skin

Gauges for Shore A, Shore D and Shore OO hardness testing can be ordered directly from the online store. We can offer you further Shore hardness testers outside the online store. For this purpose, as well as for technical queries, please call our free consultation hotline +49 (0)800 9813-191.
