It serves as protection wherever parts rub against each other and can therefore impair functionality and appearance. 3M (TM) UHMW (ultra-high-molecular-weight) polyethylene sliding tapes have a high sliding surface due to their low coefficient of friction. They also have excellent abrasion resistance. The optimum combination of these properties makes these adhesive tapes particularly suitable as sliding tapes. These tapes are also self-lubricating, resistant to moisture and many chemical agents. They are repellent to most dry or pasty substances and have good puncture and impact resistance.
